Blue Moon Taphouse
About This Spot
Stepping into Blue Moon Taphouse feels like settling into a well-loved gathering spot where the hum of lively conversations blends effortlessly with gentle waterfront breezes. Nestled along Norfolk’s scenic Waterside Drive, this spot carries the relaxed energy of a neighborhood favorite, while offering enough buzz to remind you it’s a place meant for sharing moments. Whether settled in by a window with a view of the harbor or among friends at the beer garden, the pace here invites you to slow down just a bit and savor the simple joy of good company and thoughtfully crafted drinks.
The atmosphere strikes a careful balance between casual comfort and deliberate attention to experience. The open, airy layout welcomes diverse crowds — from early risers craving a savory brunch to evening guests unwinding with a carefully poured beer or sangria. The bar itself feels like the heart of the place, where bartenders effortlessly juggle the rhythms of service and storytelling, making recommendations with a personal touch that goes beyond just the menu.
Speaking of the menu, it feels less like a list to order from and more like a collection of flavors that invite sharing, experimenting, and returning for new twists. The kitchen leans into familiar comforts — take the cozy indulgence of juicy bacon burgers, the uplifting tang of shrimp tacos, or the warmth in a bowl of she-crab soup — but each dish carries a bit of the local character and seasonal spirit. Brunch here, for example, is a mellow affair where biscuits and gravy or breakfast tacos nourish the morning, setting a tone that welcomes both quiet reflection and animated catch-ups.
One can’t overlook the role of the beers, especially the homage to Blue Moon itself, which is celebrated here with a rotating selection that invites discovery. Even if the taps don’t always show every variety, there’s an unmistakable pride in pouring a perfect pint that feels made for the setting — bright, refreshing, and paired just right with the ebb and flow of guests lingering long after their first round.
Ultimately, Blue Moon Taphouse carries the reassuring presence of a place where the daily rush fades, replaced with moments of warmth, laughter, and shared bites. It’s not just about the food or drinks, but the texture they add to a story you’re happy to be part of — waterfront views, friendly faces, and a spirit that feels both grounded and welcoming.

Dined here last week and I enjoyed myself. I ordered the shrimp and grits, she crab soup, and a margarita. Hands down one of the best flavored shrimp n grits and the hottest shrimp n grits I’ve ever had( temperature wise which was amazing ). Only thing I would suggest to the shrimp n grits that I’m accustomed to is having the onions, peppers, and andouille sausages in there, even if it’s an added cost. The she crab was flavored well but was cold and I mean cold. I didn’t send it back because I feared it just being microwaved and the thoughts that go through my mind when sending food back, so I ate a couple bites and put to the side. It took the server a little over 10mins to acknowledge me when it was no more than 4 tables in the restaurant. A simple hello I’ll be with you could have made a big difference in my review. Once greeted by the waitress she was very friendly and checked on me several times to make sure my margarita was good and that I enjoyed my food as well. Now I didn’t understand how you call yourself Blue Moon Taphouse and didn’t have anymore Blue Moon which is like Starbucks not having any coffee. That was a little surprising as being a Director of Food and Beverage for a Marriott property at the oceanfront, management not recognizing par levels for weekend service( Unless Chesbay inventory was depleted )but that was a little disappointing. All in all I would return again as I did in fact enjoy my food.

Nice tap house can see the water depending on seating. At the time of my visit they didn't have any special flavors of Blue Moon which seemed odd when they had taps showing different ones and it's THE Blue Moon Tap house . . . But food was good recommended the po boy.

If you like blue moon this is the place to go to in VA beach. They were short staffed when I went. Our server was the bartender. She was holding it down. The food and drinks were good. If I went there again I would sample all the different blue moons.
